Solar Air Heating for Boiler
Air Pre-heating
Boilers
require fuel and air for combustion. When the boiler's burner receives
cold air, the boiler needs more fuel to reach the right temperature
for delivering hot water or steam. If the boiler's burner receives
higher temperature air, the boiler needs less fuel to reach the
same water or steam temperature. For every BTU of heated air supplied,
a BTU of fuel is saved. Typically, every 40 degree F increase in
air temperature results in a 1% improvement in boiler efficiency.
The
American Solar system is a solar air heating system. Solar air heating
systems are ideally suited for pre-heating boiler air. American
Solar's system feeds solar heated air into boiler air intakes or
delivers air directly to the burner air box. Most facilities operate
at least one boiler all year long. Boiler operators using an American
Solar thermal system can receive energy savings every month of the
year. Most boiler operators will obtain energy delivery between
150,000 and 250,000 BTU per year for each square foot of installed
tiles.
