American Solar Inc. Wins Contract to Provide Solar Energy Systems to the U.S. Geological Survey

Annandale, VA—American Solar Inc. (ASI) announced today that it received a contract from the local utility company to provide the U.S. Geological Survey Reston facility with several solar thermal systems. Under this agreement, ASI will develop two ground-mounted systems to provide solar heat for two emergency diesel generators. The contract also authorizes ASI to construct a steel building, covered by the company's patented solar tile system, to house two large generators. ASI's steel building design incorporates self-framing solar-heating walls that simplify construction and reduce the heating costs for the enclosed generators. John Archibald, President American Solar, Inc. made the announcement.

"We are very excited about this opportunity to provide our unique cost-effective solar thermal system to the federal government," said Archibald. "We commend the facility management team at the U.S.G.S in purchasing our innovative technology. These installations will be the first to use solar heat to reduce the operational cost of emergency diesel generators."

American Solar, Inc. manufactures a new (patent-protected) solar heating system. This system produces heat at lower cost than most fossil fuel, electric, and solar power sources. The company's systems cost-effectively gather large amounts of solar heated air from an attractive tile roof. With these innovative technologies, customers can use solar energy in several new ways. Customers with applications that require year round energy loads and that use high-cost heating sources benefit the most. By purchasing ASI's products, commercial, government and institutional facilities receive dependable, continuous and cost-effective energy.
