American Solar Builds Solar Heating System for Dulles International AirportAnnandale, VAAmerican Solar Inc. (ASI) announced today the company completed an installation of a solar heating system at Dulles Airport. . American Solar deployed its innovative solar heating system at Dulles International Airport (Dulles). The initial building developers at Dulles, outside Washington, DC, selected corrugated metal siding painted a dark “Dulles Gray” for the Fire Station. American Solar conducted tests on the heat generated by the gray metal panels. These tests showed that the siding panel temperature exceeded 100 degrees F on a 40 degree winter day. The Energy Manager contracted with American Solar to install a solar heat recovery system for Fire Station 303 at the Airport. The system uses matching external metal plenums and solar fans to recover the solar heated air and supply it to the building. The system supplies solar heated air for space heating and hot water preheating at the fire station.
About American Solar Inc. ASI’s systems use the natural heating properties of metal. Sunlight hitting the metal surface heats the surface, which then heats the air under the surface. A small fan moves the solar-heated air through the system for a broad array of uses in buildings, commercial facilities, and agricultural or industrial processes. With these innovative technologies, customers can use solar heat in several new ways. Customers with applications that require year round energy loads and that use high-cost heating sources benefit the most. The company’s customers have included The Pentagon, Dulles Airport, US Geological Survey, National Institutes of Health, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and James Madison University. ###
