American Solar’s metal siding systems deliver high performance solar heating in beautiful weather tight walls that are indistinguishable from conventional siding systems.

Unlike most solar manufacturers that sell a large, boxy panel that must be attached on top of existing walls or siding, American Solar’s metal siding systems are built right into the building from conventional metal siding, shingles or shakes. Our unique approach to solar heating delivers large solar heating systems, high energy savings at low cost with beautiful, weather proof results.

While we offer a variety of products for metal siding, our specialty is working with owners, architects, engineers, and builders, to design, specify and order, the solar siding materials for the owners, builders and contractors to install. We work with these firms to ensure the solar siding delivers the heat to all of the useful heating purposes within the building. We are most valuable to customers who have contractors install systems to our specifications. We can work with your builder or contractors to develop the material ordering lists and learn the routine installation techniques.

In certain circumstances we can provide turnkey services for clients who require a design-build project. In those circumstances we will associate with the necessary design professionals and local contractors to install the systems. Typically these systems are larger systems with installed costs of $50,000 or more, involving the installation of at least 5,000 square feet or siding. For smaller systems the best value for the customer is often by American Solar working with a local contractor that can deliver to our specifications.

We offer a variety of products to serve customers’ solar siding needs. These products include study plans, component manufacturer lists, tools guides, installation guides, contractor lists, specialized hardware to gather and deliver solar heated air, and controls to maximize energy delivery from the solar siding systems. We also provide complete design service (LINK) for custom projects from new construction to additions and implementation of solar heat recovery from existing siding.

Our systems can be installed by homeowners with light construction skills or contractors specializing in solar heating, or siding, or home improvement. In most cases, the siding systems are installed the same way the siding manufacturers have specified in hundreds of millions of square feet of installations.

The systems can deliver solar heated air at temperatures up to 140 degrees F that can be used for space heating, water heating, clothes dryer air preheating , heat pump preheating, combustion air preheating, ventilation preheating, equipment heating industrial process heating, drying and dehumidification, and radiant floor heating. They are weather tight, building code approved installations using: steel siding, aluminum siding, metal shingles, metal shakes, and metal panel siding in a variety of shapes from board and batten to profile and corrugated. In many cases, solar heat can be recovered from existing metal siding systems without the expense of installing new siding.

Owners can expect between $1 and $4 of energy savings per year for every square foot of solar siding installed, depending on the current energy use and costs and siding orientation. Practical residential systems begin will about 300 square feet and usually involve the conversion of one face of the building to solar siding.
